Istanbul is the largest city of Europe. Being the cultural base and the capital of many civilizations, it has plenty of places to explore. Wonder where to visit in Istanbul? Here is a detailed list of the must-see places located along the Bosphorus!

1. Hagia Sophia

Dating back to 6th century, Hagia Sophia is originally a church, that was later converted into a mosque. Being a synthesis of Christian and Islamic culture, it is one of the most popular destinations in Istanbul!

2. Blue Mosque

Serving as one of the most magnificent mosque in the world, Blue Mosque is a symbol of Ottoman architecture. This beautiful 400 year old mosque is definitely a must-see in Istanbul!

3. Topkapi Palace

Topkapi Palace is the most famous Ottoman Palace located in Turkey. It hosts great amounts of tourists all over the world. Topkapi Palace’s museum consists of a wide range of historic things that you will not regret seeing.

4. Gulhane Park

Gulhane Park originally served being the garden of the Topkapi Palace and it is now one of the most famous tourist destinations in Istanbul.

This park’s colorful view and cleanliness shows us why it is that famous!

5. Basilica Cistern

With no doubt, Basilica Cistern is very famous destination thanks to its historical atmosphere and Byzantine heritage.

Basilica Cistern dates back to 6th century and it is the greatest cistern in Turkey.

6. Galata Tower

Galata Tower is definitely a renowned destination. You can not see any Istanbul Tour lists without this tower! It is originally a watchtower and also a prison. Today, it is definitely a must-see in Istanbul!

And, you must see Istanbul from the tower :)

7. Istiklal Street

Thanks to its surroundings, namely many shops, cafes, museums, historical buildings and its nightlife, Istiklal Street is one of the most crowded streets in Turkey. It is also a gateway between Taksim Square and Galata Tower!

8. Grand Bazaar

Grand Bazaar is the oldest shopping center in the world. Due to its huge area and various types of shops located in it, Grand Bazaar is a symbol of Istanbul.

Don’t forget to go shopping there before leaving Istanbul!

9. Egyptian Bazaar

If you did not get enough from the Grand Bazaar, try this one ! :)

Egyptian Bazaar is famous because of its historical structure and also its spice & sweet shops. You can also buy souvenirs there as in the Grand Bazaar.

10. Maiden’s Tower

Maiden’s Tower is also a symbol of Istanbul not only because of its architecture but also its location.

Dating back to Byzantine Era, it is originally built in order to control the sea.

Do I have to say it is a must-see? I don’t think so! :)

11. Dolmabahce Palace

Located in one of the crowdest places in Istanbul, Dolmabahce Palace is built next to shore, so that Palace’s view is amazing! This palace is one of the most magnificent building in Turkey.
